kumhrarThe remains of Patliputra as well as the ancient capital of Ajatasatru (491-59 BC), Chandragupta (321-297 BC) and Ashoka (274-237BC) have been discovered in Kumrahar, south of Patna.A few large pillars from the assembly hall dating to the Mauryan period and the foundations of the brick Buddhist monastery known as Anand Bihar are all that remain above water with more pillars beneath a pool. North –west of Kumrahar is Bhikna Pahari where Ashoka built a retreat for his brother Mahinda.
